Liz Vivas was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She received her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Universidad Nacional de Ingeneria in 2001, a master’s degree from Instituto de Matematicas Pura e Aplicada, Rio de Janeiro, in 2003, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2009. She had a postdoctoral appointment at Purdue University, a visitor appointment at Institute Henri Poincare and at Universidad Federal Fluminense. She has been Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University since 2014.
Her research is mainly in the area of discrete dynamical systems in several complex variables. Some specific problems that she is focused on are studying maps tangent to the identity in several variables, Fatou components for skew product maps, and the correspondence between vector fields and their time-1 maps. The holomorphic dynamics problems studied are motivated by important open questions in several traditional complex variables, complex geometry, affine algebraic geometry and other branches of mathematics. Recurrent themes in her research are parabolic curves, parabolic manifolds, summability theory, vector fields, Fatou components and global basins of attraction.
